Black Rock City, NV The New Ephemeral Architecture of Burning Man is the long overdue sequel of a sold-out first edition published by Real Paper Books.
Instead of reprinting it, we decided to move on and present an entirely new survey made of 200 new images where vernacular and perennial solutions coexist along experimental designs, with foreword by Zahid Sardar and essays by Burning Man co-founder Harley K. Dubois, Fred Bernstein architecture critic and AIASF architect Glenn Lym.
Under the guidance of photographer Philippe Glade, documenting the city for the last 23 years, the book explores the streets, camps and villages shaping a unique community in the American desert.
Connoisseurs or novices will be surprised by the diversity and jubilance of a phenomenon that rejuvenates, in style or not, camping in the 21st century.
Table of Contents: Foreword by Zahid Sardar, We Build this City by Harley K. Dubois, Urban Planning by Fred A. Bernstein, Living in BRC (24 pages), The Golden Rebars by Philippe G. Glade (18 pages of beyond belief realisations), Solutions by Glenn Lym followed by a 66 pages long typology of shelters, Vehicles (6 bonus pages celebrating mutant cars), Practical and Resources (6 pages with hundreds of tips and addresses).
